Glacier Bay National Park
“The magnificent mountains around, the widespread tributaries of the glacier, the great, undulating, prairie-like expanse of the main trunk...the lofty, pure white Fairweather Range; the thunder of plunging bergs...formed a glowing picture of nature’s beauty and power”
This description of a journey made in 1890 by the legendary John Muir perfectly describes our voyage on the Sea Bird through Glacier Bay today. But it doesn’t mention the foraging black and brown bears, the mountain goats, the sea lions and sea otters, and the abundant species of birds that we observed close at hand. Whoops, almost forgot the wonder of wonders--a double-breaching mother and calf pair of humpback whales!
The name of this place alone—Glacier Bay--conjures up images that transcend our ordinary experience of freeway traffic and fast food lunches. Today we were fortunate enough to have the extraordinary weather and wildlife encounters to give us memories of this magnificent National Park at it’s very best.
