Florence Bay & Chatham Strait
Fish lip ripples, raindrop dimples, and clean white flukes sliding silently into the waters of Florence Bay. What were you expecting? What impressions did you bring with you that created your mental image of what Alaska should look, feel, sound, and even smell like? Is this anything like what you thought it should be? Maybe yes, maybe no, maybe your imagination needs to fantasize a bit more. Who knew there would be white slugs in the forest? That a river otter would play hide and seek with you when you paddled by in a kayak? That a brown bear running down the trail is really THAT big? And look at the size of the droppings it left behind!
A picture of a waterfall would never convey the cool mist coating your skin, the damp breeze created by the fall of water, or the immediate warmth when you turn away and face into the sun. That’s why we travel, that’s why we explore and experience wild places such as Alaska. We always hope to share with you things you never expected.
Shared with you now are a few of today’s experiences by one of our younger guests.
