“Isla Espiritu Santo”
Our day at Isla Espiritu Santo started with some morning hikes, pleasant kayaking and Zodiac cruises. The short walks focused on plants, birds and photography. Our long hike up a bouldery wash of “Ensenada Grande” ended with a rewarding view over the cliffs of the eastern side of the island, as you see in the photo above.
After lunch we snorkeled at “Los Islotes”, admiring many colorful reef fish. Most of us were thrilled to share the waters with the resident California sea lions.
Before sunset we began searching for whales and within minutes sighted blows of blue whales. A mother and calf surfaced repeatedly alongside the ship and soon the young one began lunging out of the water repeatedly. Watching them and a fin whale that passed alongside too took us on a very full and memorable day.
