Traveling can open up new horizons. Sometimes we are exposed to different cultures or scenic wonders. One of the most exciting opportunities is to see something familiar from a new perspective.
This evening, the Sea Birdcast off from the River Place Marina in the heart of Portland. As we traveled, first up and then down the Willamette River, we saw the city from a series of unique angles. Peregrine falcon soared above. Automobile and railroad bridges rose allowing us to pass, lowering after we passed. Even though it is more than one hundred miles from the ocean, ocean going ships towering above us were loading and unloading a wide variety of cargoes.
During dinner, we reached the confluence with the Columbia River and headed east, upriver towards the Bonneville Dam and Lock.
