Today, in the wake of Lewis and Clark, we visited part of the ancestral home of the Nez Perce (Nimipu) people. The Corps of Discovery was in this neighborhood in October, 1805, and commented on the kindness and hospitality of these people.

Among the items given to prominent persons encountered among the native population was the presidential medal of Thomas Jefferson. One of the few ever seen again was found during road construction at the mouth of the Potlatch River. The obverse of the medal shows clasped hands and the words "Peace and Friendship". This expressed the desire of the Jefferson administration.

195 years later this feeling persists in the philosophy of Lindblad Expeditions and its guests.
