An Expedition Kind of a Day

As overcast skies gave way to a strong sun, our first Zodiac left the gangway of the Sea Cloud II, bound for the beaches and hiking trails of Islas Cies. I had heard that it would be a true Lindblad Expeditions type day with minimal scheduling, no bus rides, and plenty of nature. After working on the Sea Cloud II in the Caribbean for three months this past year with plenty of time for these type excursions, I was looking forward to this easy day.

The first Zodiacs ashore held Rocio, our Wellness Specialist, and David, our Historian; along with the brave guests ready to go on the two mile hike with a steep uphill start. Although the water at the end would be a cold 65 degrees Fahrenheit, the plan was for David to lead the icy plunge into the Atlantic waters. I couldn’t imagine that anyone would be joining David in this…

By the time the first Zodiacs made their first shuttle run back to the ship, I was hearing the sound of the brave souls wade their way into the bitter cold. First it was just David, but very soon after, I witnessed guests shedding their clothes (and sanity!) and following right behind.
