Smooth Sailing

It has been a full expedition with plenty of time to relax. We have visited Bequia, St. Lucia, Dominica, Iles des Saintes, Prickly Pear Island and more. They have all had their own unique landscapes, histories and cultures. The impressions they have made all mixing and swirling in our minds as we sailed about with no particular destination.

The flexibility of our itinerary and expert leadership of Tom O’Brien and Captain Nemerzhitskiy gave us the freedom to play in the wind as we like today. Those at the morning stretch class enjoyed twisting and toning on their backs as the sails unfurled down towards us one by one. A walk around the deck uncovered propped up feet, easy laughter, and many eyes turned skyward. The sun was warm and the day was long. No one spoke of going home yet. There was no place else to be. We were right where we belonged.

For those interested in a bit of learning there were bridge tours offered and a talk on coral reef ecology by Berit Solstad. We gathered for afternoon crepes and conversation on the Lido Deck. Lee Brumley provided the musical ambience as Lennox Honeychurch continued to impart his wealth of local knowledge and entertaining stories. It had all become quite familiar.

The sun sank slowly through the billowing clouds that glowed orange and pink. The mood is light as we arrived at our final cocktail hour in our finest casual Caribbean attire. It was not until the Captain’s Farwell Dinner, complete with the introduction of Galley and Service department staff, that we were willing to begin the sad and inevitable goodbyes.
