Bequia

This morning when we awoke, Sea Cloud II was on the NE side of small, hilly Bequia. Crew set sails, and we passed south along the windward side of the island, then turned around Bequia’s southern tip. Finally, we sailed north along the island’s Caribbean side. As we completed our sail around Bequia, Lennox gave an interesting presentation entitled ‘The Real Pirates of the Caribbean.’ Hollywood’s recent Pirates of the Caribbean movies parts II and III were filmed on Lennox’ home island of Dominica.

After lunch we anchored in the Admiralty Bay. This small island is popular with sailors, and the bay was filled with cruising sailboats. Many among us opted for a tour of the island, and traveled on the backs of trucks to visit the remains of a fort, and a turtle sanctuary on the far side of the island. Some of us snorkeled or swam at beautiful Princess Margaret Beach. Other people strolled in the small town of Port Elizabeth, or enjoyed a beverage at a beachfront bar called The Whaleboner, while artist Geoff Hunt set up his easel and paints along a nearby stretch of waterfront. Whatever option was selected, we all had a lovely and relaxing afternoon in Bequia.

Dinner tonight was a deck buffet. As we finished eating, the local guitar band, King of Strings, performed on the Lido Deck.
