Few landscapes in the United States are more captivating than the ice-covered waters below Alaska's Le Conte Glacier. Here guests aboard the Sea Lion cruise in a Zodiac among the icebergs. The color of the ice ranges from pure white to electric blue. Ice shapes that resemble swans, porpoises, and even space craft never fail to enchant the imaginative observer. The day itself was memorable for its stunning beauty: aquamarine skies and warm and gentle breezes added to the charm of an ideal summer day.

After cruising among the icebergs, the Sea Lion headed to nearby Petersburg, where we enjoyed strolling the quaint streets of the fishing town or walking through an Alaskan bog (known as muskeg here) for an informal program of nature study. Some guests also boarded float planes or helicopters to savor the thrill of an aerial view of the Le Conte Glacier. In all, the day's varied activities gave us renewed appreciation for the special delights of a summer voyage through Southeast Alaska.
