Isla Magdalena, Hull Canal, & Magdalena Bay
We awoke this morning clothed in fog, a misty white and gray,
Undaunted, Zodiacs we did board to cross Magdalena Bay!
Arriving on the sand we walked for hours through the dunes
Amazed at all the life persisting in those sandy plumes.
The fog it seems, is not just simply visibly opaque
For all the plants receive its gifts like icing on the cake
So many possess tiny hairs, or protuberations
To capture water from the mist – what fine renumeration!
(An example can be seen above – the iodine bush so green
Adorned with water droplet jewels, an unlikely desert scene!)
Well before noon the fog was gone, the sand was hot with sun
We ambled back towards the ship, prepared for lots more fun
Cruising north through Hull Canal, the mangroves dripped with wings
Godwits, Frigatebirds and gulls, and other feathered things
At last the gray whale too was seen, a mother and her young
At anchor by the Boca* waves, this glorious day is done!
