Boca de Soledad
Pelican dives and whale blows, what a wonderful way to start the day. Our fearless leader guided us out into the waters of Boca de Soledad for our final day of whale watching. Small pods of bottlenose dolphins swirled around in the waters, while gray whales frolicked in the sea. The occasional spy hop, breach and role were greatly appreciated by all. It came complete with a finale of four consecutive breaches!
Late in the morning we sailed south through Hull Canal. The MV Sea Lion hotel staff prepared us a fabulous BBQ lunch on deck. While grazing on our yummy food, we watched as pelicans and frigates danced in the sky.
After lunch we had the opportunity to hike, Zodiac cruise or kayak in the mangroves. The snap, crackle and pop of the waters surrounding the mangroves were music to the ear. Shore birds dotted the small beaches surrounded by propagules and pneumatophores (pictured above).
Helen Keller summarized our feelings and affections most eloquently with the following quotations. “The most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even heard, they must be felt with the heart.” We hope that Baja California has found a special place in your heart as well.
