A panoramic view of the Sierra de la Giganta

Here we have a taste of the landscape of the east coast of the Baja California peninsula as our journey continues north in the Gulf of California. This impressive framework of volcanic and volcanoclastic mountains have been named by the geologists the "Comondu Formation", and its age ranges from the Miocene (circa 25 million years old) to very recent times. The red, brown, and green colors of the Comondu Formation are one of the many elements to enjoy and to discuss as we approach the San Jose Channel where it lies just across the water from Isla San Jose.

In this particular place blue and fin whales have been studied. Therefore the expectation to encounter any of these leviathans grows every minute as we approach this fascinating spot within the Gulf of California.
