The sun rose while we were cruising through the Sea of Cortez. As we navigated north, we could see many different islands, each with a unique beauty and ecological importance. The waters, which are rich in nutrients due to the upwellings, have a unique richness of marine life.
As we enjoyed the beauties of the landscape from the bow, we suddenly found ourselves engulfed by several blue whales, hammer head sharks, sea lions, and dolphins. Occasionally big game fish launched into the horizon.
Near Isla San Jose we counted a total of seven blue whales, an amazing sight. We were lucky enough to see one of them showing its flukes. It is not a common thing for the blue whales to fluke. We al felt very fortunate to be surrounded by the largest creature of the planet.
