Mt Hood stands above the Columbia River Gorge

Dawn greeted the Sea Lion in the Columbia River Gorge as we traveled eastward. The morning air was crisp and clear. We came to a low gap near the city of Hood River, Oregon, where we beheld the imposing view of Mount Hood on the skyline. Many people have commented when viewing Mount Hood for the first time, “Now that’s what a mountain should really look like.” Snow covered, with rugged rock cliffs rising toward the summit, heavily timbered slopes in the foreground; all indicate that this is really an exceptional mountain peak. Guests aboard the Sea Lion stood at the ship’s railing and took many pictures to commemorate the event. In this world of smoggy skies and cluttered foregrounds, sometimes the perfect picture presents itself. This morning it did and we were there to enjoy it.

As if to toy with us, the remainder of the day was just as good. The gentle winds, the bright sunlight, the glistening waves, the green slopes covered with brightly colored wildflowers, all affirmed that today has been perfect.
