The picturesque marina at Friday Harbor nestles in a protected bay, a lovely spot to tie up for a few hours. Overlooking the harbor lies The Whale Museum, famous for its focus on killer whales and well worth a stop, especially after our incredibly good luck in viewing these magnificent creatures throughout our voyage.

As the Sea Lion explored the waterways that embrace the San Juan Islands, ferries transited the channels, sailboats tacked back and forth in the breeze, and kayaks skirted the rocky shore. Was this bustle of activity greater than normal due to the Labor Day holiday, or did it simply seem that way in contrast to the wild north country to which we had grown accustomed? In spite of the increased human presence, these islands have tremendous appeal. Orcas, porpoises, and harbor seals frequent the marine environment, while eagles and herons perch near the water's edge. We took in this experience until the sun slowly sank for the final sunset of our fabulous adventure aboard the Sea Lion.
