Los Islotes and Bahia Ensenada Grande

Though it appears that these three huge male California sea lions may be crooners, they are wrestling and vocalizing their displeasure in an ongoing attempt to maintain their places among the red rocks of Los Islotes, an islet on the north end of beautiful Isla Espirtu Santo. The end of the pupping and mating season for these exciting pinnipeds is approaching and we are fortunate to see this year’s adorable young pups with their mothers.

Los Islotes is also home to hundreds of seabirds and today we observed magnificent frigate birds, brown pelicans, brown and blue-footed boobies as well as a number of cliff swallows that have found homes in the rock fissures. Following an opportunity to snorkel with California sea lions, the Sea Voyager repositioned to Bahia Ensenada Grande, where we spent a leisurely afternoon of snorkeling and swimming in the turquoise water and walking and playing on the white sand beach. Laughter and squeals of delight were heard from our younger guests as they rode the “banana boat” towed behind the Zodiacs.
