Manatee River, Belize
Wake-up call was at 6:00 am for our kayak expedition. We started our journey up the Manatee River of coastal Belize. We saw birds of different species: white egrets, green-backed heron, black hawk (juvenile), osprey and little blue heron were just some of the birds we saw. The juvenile black hawk was gracious enough to let us come close, observing us with keen interest before taking off.
As we continued, we turned into one of the little side creeks in search of the elusive manatees. We were paddling for about twenty minutes when we came upon a group of golden rays. That was an amazing sight watching them glide just below the surface with no bother in the world. We then tuned back and headed for the river where we met the Zodiac, and came back on board once more with another wonderful experience.
