Belize

This morning weather conditions were not favorable for a visit to Lighthouse Reef, and so Captain Luis Alocoser and Expedition Leader Ged Caddick quickly came up with alternate plan B! Thus as we awoke we were dropping anchor close to Manatee River, and began Friday following Saturday’s agenda….hoping that we could revisit Lighthouse Reef on Saturday, and do Friday’s plan!

Things could not have worked out better. The barrier reef provided some protection for our activities at Manatee River, where we did some final kayak exploration and a Zodiac cruise in search of manatees. Everyone caught at least a glimpse of these elusive creatures as they came to the surface to breathe. After our morning excursion we headed for a little spec of land known as Goff’s Cay, and here we enjoyed the beach, the waters and the sunshine until the evening hours. Many of us snorkeled and some were lucky enough to see barracudas, many kinds of smaller fish, and this brief view of a spotted eagle ray. Wow, what a beauty, and Emma our Undersea Specialist was able to capture his visit on the underwater camera, so we could all enjoy it in the lounge later this evening.

A great day, for plan B.
