Manuel Antonio National Park; Refugio Curu

Today we visited one of the smallest national parks in Costa Rica, Manuel Antonio. This isolated piece of rainforest is very rich in wildlife. After dividing into small walking groups, the animals didn’t wait to show up, as we quickly spotted two and three toed sloths, white-throated capuchins, mantled-howler monkeys, coatimundis and a variety of birds. We also enjoyed the beautiful beach at the park before our departure to the next destination.

In the afternoon we disembarked at Refugio Curú, which is a private nature reserve and one of the only remaining dry forests of the pacific coast in Costa Rica. As we made our way into the reserve, we were welcomed by groups of scarlet macaws that perched low in the tress and giving their characteristic squawks. Mammals also made their appearance so most got very good looks and photos of white-throated capuchins and mantled howler monkeys. Later, along the walk we observed a white-nosed coatimundi sleeping in a thin tall shrub. Rufous-naped wrens, northern orioles, chestnut-sided warblers, and Rufous-tailed hummingbirds are among the birds observed during our last excursion of the voyage.

Just another beautiful day in paradise!
