Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica
The end of the day arrives with remembrances of a day full of surprises, as we explored Osa Peninsula with its national parks and the well protected buffer zones.
This morning as we arrived at Caletas for a morning of exploration, we were greeted by a pair of flying scarlet macaws that gracefully landed at a Indian sea almond tree a few feet from our designated lunch area. Divided into groups, we explored the surrounding areas amazed by the different aspects of the dynamics of the tropical rainforest.
Afterwards, we enjoyed a delicious picnic lunch few feet from our escorting scarlet macaws and some even did some swimming on the refreshing waters of this beach where in nesting season sea turtles come to nest.
In the afternoon, we repositioned to Drake bay, supposedly a former hideout of Sir Francis Drake. We explored the Rio agujitas by Zodiac or kayak once again amazed by the lush green of the surrounding area. Did Francis Drake feel the same amazement that we do looking into these areas? I bet he did.
After taking time to think about it, one of the things that make Costa Rica so admirable is the protected areas on the buffer zone of Corcovado National park which is under a conservationist management plan from the private sector. If only we could follow this example in many areas of the world, our planet would be a much better place!
