San Josecito & Corcovado National Park, Puntarenas; Costa Rica
The Corcovado area is without a doubt one of the most interesting places in Costa Rica. It includes beautiful little bays surrounded by an astounding forest that contains thousands of plant species. The first part of the day brought us to the little beach of San Josecito where we were able to experience a horseback ride, a walk through a beautiful and well-maintained garden, snorkeling and a visit by several couples of Scarlet Macaws.
Our visit to this privately owned facility shows us the interest that the locals have in the protection of the wildlife that lives at the very border of the park. It pleasantly demonstrates how a well-managed ecotourism activity can make possible the protection of the natural resources.
At midday the Sea Voyager lifted anchor and headed to the San Pedrillo ranger station from which we headed out for our afternoon walks into the majestic forest of Corcovado National Park There we found, close to the trail, a black hawk patiently waiting for his meal and a blue-red land crab that makes the floor of this incredible forest his home. Some of us decided to explore the Ridge trail while others did the Pargo trail or paid a visit to the waterfall and took a refreshing swim in its waters, surrounded by an atmosphere of calm and tranquility.
Around five, our visit to the park ended and our voyaging began with many new species of birds, mammals and reptiles on our lists and an unforgettable set of memories. When we thought that the day was over and the sunset was the last beautiful event, we were surprised by a school of playful pantropical spotted dolphins which made an incredible demonstration of their acrobatic abilities.
