Golfo Dulce & Casa Orquidea
After navigating all night from Panama to Costa Rica we came to the little port of Golfito, where we made official our entrance to the country. We watched the sunrise as our passports were stamped and the laughing gulls flew around. We repositioned over breakfast to the beautiful botanical gardens of Casa Orquidea. The toucans sang while we were walking and the hummingbirds and euphonias moved rapidly through the dense canopy. The white throated capuchins moved in the distance among the hanging vines. A king vulture flew above as we were boarding the last Zodiac. As we reached the Sea Voyager the calm water in the Golfo Dulce seemed too inviting to overlook the opportunity. We dove into the water from the stern and then the other attractions started to come. Our young adventurers had the chance to take Zodiac driving lessons and ride on the banana boat. It was the refreshing activity that had come at the right time. On the way to Rincon some of us could see the yellow bellied sea snakes and olive Ridley sea turtles.
We dropped anchor as we reached the extensive mangrove estuaries of the Rincon River. The walkers saw a good number of birds including a couple of nesting trogons. The Zodiac riders saw iguanas, birds and a sloth while the kayakers had an experience of discovery through the smallest canals. Basilisks and several individuals of white ibis marked our way.
We started to navigate to our next destination and we appreciated the sunset from the stern. Our young adventurers watched a movie with a pizza dinner to close their day.
