Playa Caletas & San Pedrillo, Corcovado National Park
We had spent a calm night anchored in Drake Bay. Early in the morning, the Sea Voyager weighed anchor and sailed close to Caleta beach. The sun was already giving its warm rays when it began to reveal the scenario of a beautiful private reserve, inviting us to go ashore and explore the area. Caleta is a buffer zone where many species of plants and animals find refuge from illegal hunters. Since it is close to one of the largest and most pristine parks of Costa Rica, we knew that we had a great possibility for spotting wild flora and fauna.
As soon as we had finished our breakfast, we grabbed our exploring gear and went ashore. Some went horseback riding and others hiked along the trails of the area. It was just a spectacular morning. Scarlet macaws, howler monkeys, and different species of birds added a lot of color and sound to the experience.
Back on board, we weighed anchor and sailed to our next destination, San Pedrillo. This is another paradise in Costa Rica. Being part of Corcovado National Park, this place is home to larger mammals. It has been kept pristine because its accessible is only by boat, assuring that illegal hunters will have a hard time hunting in this place. A lovely rain forest was waiting for us. So we didn’t delay our adventure. On shore, some went for a hike close to a waterfall. Is was a great opportunity to take a swim while a little crocodile rested, not far from us, without being bothered by our presence.
Everybody came back to the ship talking about their different hikes and what nature had revealed to them. It was a great day for everybody!
