Golfo Dulce, Costa Rica

After sailing through the night, we arrived early in the morning at Golfito, a little town in Golfo Dulce, Costa Rica. After clearing with customs, we sailed to the end of this big gulf. The Sea Voyager dropped anchor off Rio Esquinas, a nice estuary covered with different species of mangrove forest.

Eager to explore the area, we were ready to disembark. First to disembark were the kayakers. Then we disembark those that were interested in Zodiac cruises. Mangrove explanations were related since a great amount of the participants had never experienced being in a mangrove forest. Animals were spotted like squirrel monkeys, toucans, swallows, egrets, and also two rainbow boas.

Back on board, as the ship was repositioned, we experience the traveling along with a nice pod of bottlenose dolphins until we arrived at Casa Orquidea. Once we dropped anchor, we loaded the Zodiacs with guests and naturalists to visit the area. On shore, the majority of guests left with naturalists to explore the surrounding areas that presented various species of orchids, surrounded by the mixed sounds of insects and birds. Some of the wonderful birds that were spotted were the thick billed euphonia, beautiful cherry’s tanager, and the very spotted swainson’s thrust as well as insects.

Very excited with the place and not willing to leave, we all returned to ship. It had been a wonderful day. A great welcome to Costa Rica!
