Corcovado National Park & Playa Caletas, Osa, Puntarenas, Costa Rica

Overnight, the Sea Voyager rounded the Osa Peninsula to reach San Pedrillo shortly after sunrise. The Pacific Ocean showed very little surf as we reached the National Park. Corcovado National Park is a pristine, healthy rainforest on the Southern Pacific coast of Costa Rica. It is considered to be one of the most biologically intense places on earth.

At San Pedrillo our group was divided for three different walks. Some people took the long walk to the waterfall. Another group went along the coast on the flat trail, and some people decided to enjoy the beauty of the surroundings at the ranger station. We saw a wonderful display of color of the scarlet macaws. A crocodile showed itself among the mangroves and the boat billed heron was discovered in its roosting place as it waited for night to come. While the mantled howler monkeys were looking for the tender leaves of a ficus tree, the Central American spider monkeys moved gracefully through the canopy.

We came back aboard and the ship repositioned to Playa Caletas, a wildlife refuge in the Northern part of the peninsula. The galley served a great lunch ashore and we could enjoy a relaxing afternoon in the area. Some people took a nice birding walk and later a group went on a power walk to Agujitas, a small town in Drake Bay.

Sunset caught us on the Sea Voyager during cocktail hour. A clear night sky gave us a clear view of Venus, Orion, Cassiopeia and the Pleiades as our ship weighed anchor to our last destination: Manuel Antonio National Park.
