Manuel Antonio & Caño Island

It is always good to “start with your right foot,” as we say. It is always a good sign for a good ending to have a good beginning. We arrived early this morning to Manuel Antonio National Park, after an incredibly smooth sail, indeed so smooth we though we hadn’t moved at all during the night…Well, almost!

We easily disembarked on the beach to start a successful walk, with plenty of wildlife. We found two-toed sloths, followed by three-toed sloths. Right away, we saw all of Costa Rica’s total species of these strange looking mammals (two species).

We also spotted, along our stroll, several bats, “Jesus Christ” basilisk lizards, spiny tailed iguanas, agoutis (giant rodents that look like giant guinea pigs with long legs), inquisitive white-faced monkeys and noisy Mantled howler monkeys. Very good morning indeed!

In the afternoon we started sailing towards our next destination, Corcovado but decided to take a “little” detour by Caño Island just to practice a little snorkeling at Costa Rica’s second-best place for SCUBA diving! A little later in the afternoon as we arrived to Caño Island, after having several sea turtles and groups of pan tropic spotted dolphins escorting us, the sun was already low and it was a little dark, maybe not the best time of the day for snorkeling, but not at all a bad spot to just start to get used to our snorkeling gear and, of course, to make the most of our day!

So we had a great day! As it was described by one of our guests, “A full day that felt like several days packed in one.”

And we are just warming up!
