The Golfo Dulce: Among Jungles, Gardens, Flowers, Mangroves and a Cantina… a real sweet place.
Suddenly the ship started sailing through really calm waters, it was the beautiful Golfo Dulce. The sunrise combined with the blue waters and the green rain forest background promised another incredible day.
It was interesting to observe that all the beautiful hills surrounding the gulf seems to be one of the most incredible pieces of real estate to develop into valuable Ocean View properties with resorts, but yet the gulf seems to be completely unspoiled. What magical energy make the Costa Ricans keep this place as natural as possible?
We began discovering this energy by visiting the botanical gardens of Casa Orquideas where the shapes, the colors, and the beauty of tropical plants were at the tip of our fingers, on trails that were decorated with colorful birds. We were able to see and try numerous fruits that the guests had never seen before; these fruits came from all over the New World tropics as well as all over the world, such as cashews, star fruits and pickle fruit. Before lunch, swimming in the gulf and the famous banana boat were the joy of all the young travelers and others a little less young.
In the afternoon the icing on the cake was kayaking and zodiac cruising through mangroves that revealed for us a great quantity of bird species, upon arriving to a little countryside cantina. At the cantina we reviewed the day’s sightings while having a drink. A walk for more birdwatching was offered. As some were kayaking back and other were riding the zodiacs, ibis, herons, whimbrels and spoonbills waved us good-bye as we rode into the gulf back to the Sea Voyager, full of the magic that keeps this gulf unspoiled.
