Manuel Antonio National Park

Awesome is the word that describes this past week in Costa Rica. We have seen scarlet macaws every single day of the trip, plus hawks, tanagers, warblers, pelicans, and many others. But the best was saved for the last. Today at Manuel Antonio National Park, one of most beautiful National Parks in Costa Rica, se had a great time. We saw a Tamandua anteater, two-toed sloth, three-toed sloth and white-nosed coati. But the ones that gave as a whole show of acrobatics were the white-faced capuchin monkeys.

Here in the picture we see a white-faced capuchin monkey. They are one of the most intelligent monkeys of the New World. They have been trained to act in the circus and are one of the most common actors in Hollywood movies about the jungle. This animal when moving through the forest, travels at all levels, and even goes on the ground to cross open areas, drink or forage. It is most active in the morning and late afternoon, sometimes sleeping at midday over a large branch. Their diet consists on ripe fruits, buds and flowers, insects, small vertebrates, and bird eggs.

In the afternoon we had a nice time to swim and explore the trails of the tropical dry forest at Curu Wildlife Refuge.
