Tamarindo and Bahia Zapotal, Costa Rica

We returned to Costa Rica today, where the most common phrase you hear is “Pura Vida”, which literally translates as “pure life” but means so much more. It really means all is good with “your” world, that you are living well, healthy and being a good person in every way possible. What an appropriate phrase for our activities today!

We began the day with kayak and Zodiac exploration of a small mangrove lined river just to the western edge of the town of Tamarindo. We saw many birds, some saw an American crocodile, and all enjoyed the beautiful scenery, even if it was starting to get a bit hot. However the heat made the plunge into the crashing waves all the more enjoyable. We body-surfed, rode the boogie boards and strolled through town looking for souvenirs or perhaps an internet café.

Lunch was aboard as we re-positioned to Bahia Zapotal where we really took advantage of the water, kayaks, swimming, snorkeling, and the most fun of all, Jorge’s “banana boat”. Banana boat may be better translated as kayak towed at high speed by a Zodiac……Yeeeeeeha.

Then we enjoyed a spectacular sunset over the Pacific, the sky turning indigo, red, yellow and shimmering clouds. PURA VIDA indeed.
