Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica

The sun rose behind the forest-laden hills of the Corcovado National Park on the Costa Rican Osa Peninsula. We were all quite excited, as the day was about to unfold before us. Several groups of avid hikers began their march from the beach into the forest. The apparent silence of the jungle was broken by the troops of white-throated capuchins and howler monkeys.

As the heat of the day started to set in, the forest gradually grew quiet and we headed back to our mother ship, the Sea Voyager. The vessel repositioned in time to shuttle us ashore on a different spot, where the crew presented us with a delicious picnic lunch.

The afternoon tone was set by a group of scarlet macaws that landed in the nearby trees, giving us an excellent opportunity to admire them and take some photos.

Later in the day our party was divided according to our immediate interests, and some groups headed back into the forest while others went to the beach for a refreshing splash. A few stayed put and fell asleep seduced by the stillness of the day.

Back on the Sea Voyager we watched a group of false killer whales perform playfully not far from the ship, followed by a green flash as the sun sank behind the tranquil waters of the Pacific Ocean.
