Manuel Antonio National Park, Curu Wildlife Refuge
At breakfast we saw the North Star and the Southern Cross. Not even the diurnal animals were awake as we started disembarking at Manuel Antonio National Park. We had started our walk and the sun hadn’t risen yet. Suddenly we started hearing the black hooded antshrikes, black-bellied wrens and the deafening call of the cicadas. The natural paradise of Costa Rica’s most visited National Park for us to enjoy. Lindblad has permission to enter the park before it opens to the public. Central American squirrel monkeys and white-throated capuchins made a show for us. Double-toothed kites procured the insects and little vertebrates flushed by the primates. We found sloths and agoutis on our way back to our ship. In the afternoon we cruised to Curu. Some of us saw marine turtles, dolphins and seabirds on the way. The brown boobies kept us company most of the way. A big pod of howler monkeys and white nosed coatis made the afternoon at the wildlife refuge where we saw scarlet macaws and white fronted parrots. Birding was great! It was a great day to finish the week on board the Sea Voyager.
