Islas Murcielagos, Santa Rosa National Park, Costa Rica

We began our day in the Cocos Beach area today, dealing with customs and immigration formalities. Once we were formally “clear,” we moved a short distance to Bahia Huevos, where we had opportunities to snorkel, swim, kayak, or just relax. This bay has a very dramatic shoreline, with lots of seas stacks and steep cliffs—a beautiful spot indeed. We came back aboard for lunch, and sailed north-westwards towards a cluster of islands close to the mainland known as Islas Murcielagos, or “Bat Islands.”

En route to Islas Murcielagos we kept a watchful eye for marine life, and were rewarded with several views of Pantropical Spotted Dolphins leaping out of the water and enjoying our wake. Once we arrived to the islands we had several options again: you could snorkel, swim or opt for a rather rigorous, but wonderfully rewarding hike to the top of the island. As you can see from the photos, the views were incredible, and well worth the scramble up the hillside.

This evening, as we sailed towards Playa Herradura, our ultimate disembarkation location, we had a sunset that seemed to last forever, with the skies turning every shade of red and gold imaginable; a fitting end to a busy, rewarding and fulfilling week. Pura Vida.
