Tamarindo and Bahia Zapotal, Costa Rica
We re-entered Costa Rica early this morning at Coco Beach, where we took care of customs and immigration before sailing further southwards. We sailed along the dramatic shoreline of the Guanacaste region, and were visited several times by pantropical spotted dolphins who enjoyed surfing in our bow-wake. Once we arrived at Tamarindo we began shore excursions; some of us explored a mangrove estuary by Kayak, some explored by Zodiac, some of us went surfing in the waves breaking ashore and some of the more serious shoppers departed immediately for town!
We spent an enjoyable morning at Tamarindo, and during lunch we sailed around Cabo Velas keeping a watchful eye for marine life or taking an afternoon siesta. By mid-afternoon we were ashore at Bahia Zapotal for a great afternoon on our own private beach—well almost private, as there were a few cows also on this mile-long deserted beach! So we spent a lazy afternoon swimming, snorkeling, throwing a frisbee or just relaxing and reading.
At sunset we came back aboard for sunset cocktails on the sundeck, a fitting way to end a great day with stunning red hues across the sky. Pura vida indeed.
