Corcovado National Park and Caletas Beach, Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica
We woke up today to the sound of the anchor lifting as we started towards our morning’s destination: Corcovado National Park, and the San Pedrillo River. We all knew we were going to experience the muddy rainforest trails, as it had rained all night last night. But we were all ready and willing, especially those who went on the long walk towards the waterfall. Up and down the slippery slopes and across the friendly river we went to reach the 30 foot-high waterfall. Showered in mist, we marveled at nature’s creation feeling especially lucky for being there. Those of us who walked the lower trail got the chance to watch other wonders such as howler monkeys and an beach almond tree covered with scarlet macaws.
After the morning’s outings, and a great lunch on board, we headed out for our afternoon’s activities. Horseback riding was on the menu, as was hiking, bird watching, swimming, body surfing, or simply relaxing on the beach. Scarlet macaws flying over our heads, Jesus Christ lizards running over water, chestnut mandibled toucans, red-lored parrots, and spider monkeys accompanied us on our ways.
It was hard to leave the beach, many of us were not sure we wanted to leave it at all. But once on board our home away from home, in a secluded bay of the Osa Peninsula, we were glad to be back in our cozy floating home.
