Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, Belize
The first group of guests took off at 6:30 a.m. with José to do the long river walk within the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary. This reserve is in the Stann Creek District in the country of Belize. Other groups disembarked at 7:30 a.m. where the major group headed for the waterfall hike. Our tour guide, who is a Mayan native from the area named Theo, was leading in the front of the group. Lascelle, who drove our bus, was guiding the other group doing the river walk.
We were informed by Theo of the different types of flora and fauna as we walked along to the waterfall. Upon reaching the falls, everybody decided to jump into the water and relax a while. Having many kids with their parents, we did the water slide and swam and climbed upon the rocks under the waterfall. Cameras were very busy as families grouped under the falls or grouped in the pools underneath. We got back to our bus and stopped at the Maya Center in a Maya village where we did souvenir shopping, which also helped the local community, as they were the artisans of all the handicrafts. We took off once more for our ship. Just another day full of memories.
