Life aboard National Geographic Sea Bird was filled with smiles and excitement starting early in the morning. Every day of our expedition has been filled with good fortune and this day did not disappoint. We awoke to a pod of killer whales right outside our ship, cruising along beside us. Then, before brunch, we spent time observing a Steller sea lion haul-out, a large group of sea lions resting together on a rock surrounded by sea water. The sights and the sounds filled our senses and inspired us to explore and see more. In the afternoon, some of us went hiking deep into the forest to enjoy the canopy of spruce, pine, and cedar. Others cruised on small boats to observe bald eagles, jellyfish, sea lions, and even a humpback whale. With gratitude, we ended the day with a warm, gourmet meal and new friends. It was another outstanding day in Alaska.
