Lilliehookfjorden, Svalbard, 6/24/2022, National Geographic Endurance

Luckily for us, the predicted poor weather didn’t materialize, so we awoke to the most glorious morning…sunny skies and calm seas. It made for perfect conditions as National Geographic Endurance made her way up Lilliehookfjorden to the glacier at the end. The calm conditions allowed us to hear the calving of the glacier really clearly. We saw quite a few events, and the last one caused a large wave.

With all the mandatory briefings out of the way, we could enjoy the scenery and get to our afternoon destination of Signehamna, where the WWII German weather station was located. Given just how calm it was, quite a few guests chose to go kayaking and the rest went exploring via Zodiac. We observed all sorts of wildlife, including Svalbard reindeer, barnacle geese, Atlantic puffins, and many other birds.

In the evening, Captain Aaron hosted the Captain’s Cocktail Party. We enjoyed a surprise in the form of some singing given it is Summer Day in Sweden.
