This morning we woke to strong winds as we headed into the safety of Paradise Harbor. Originally named by whalers who used the protected area to process their catch from the safety of weather and the sea. Those days are over but the location still holds claim to its given name as we explored the area with our Zodiacs in protected waters. During the afternoon we headed Danco Island. A small island not far from Paradise Harbor at the southern end of the Errera Channel. This area was charted during the Adrien de Gerlache’s expedition of 1897-1899. The island was named after Gerlache’s good friend Emile Danco, who would be the expedition’s geophysicist and magnetic observer. On Danco we hiked up to an amazing vista which overlooked the channel, visiting a Gentoo penguin colon along the way.
