Another beautiful day in Belize! Today National Geographic Sea Lion found itself in the southern village of Placencia. Although the day started out a bit overcast, we were blessed with perfect conditions for the activities we planned. After a delicious breakfast, the adventure started with a leisurely Zodiac ride to nearby Harvest Caye. Our patience paid off when we spotted a herd of manatee behind the southern tip of the island. Everyone enjoyed sightings of this gentle mammal, one of the largest creatures in Belize. After learning about this endangered species that calls Belize home, we continued exploring the many tiny islands within the lagoon by kayak. This was the perfect way to explore the mangrove ecosystem while simultaneously getting in our morning exercise!

In the afternoon, we got a special treat when one of Belize’s most famous bands paid us a visit! The Garifuna Collective is world-renowned, having performed in Europe, Mexico, Australia and North America, just to name a few. They impressed the group with several performances, including Punta, Jankunu and Paranda. Practically everyone in the group moved to the rhythm of the shakra, turtle shells and drums! Thus ended another beautiful day in Belize.
