Early this morning, we went for a gentle stroll on the only red sand beach in Galapagos. As we arrived, we were entertained by a sea lion who climbed up the beach to rest. Further along, we encountered a lava heron who was excitedly hunting for his breakfast. We followed him at a distance and not long after we witnessed how it suddenly lurched forward, caught a lava lizard in its bill, and proceeded to gulp it down.
We then turned inland to be rewarded with the sight of five flamingos at close range. We watched for a while as they preened and fluffed up their feathers, before we returned to National Geographic Gemini to prepare for our first snorkeling trip.
