Today we visited my home island: Santa Cruz. Nowadays this island is the most populated of the Galapagos Archipelago. We were using all the facilities provided in order to learn about the conservation efforts implemented throughout the last fifty years. The morning was spent visiting the famous Giant Tortoise Breeding Center and afterwards visiting the town, including the fishermen’s market. Today is particularly different as we moved with buses from one site to the next. One of the adventures of the day is crossing a big lava tunnel, partly rocky and sometimes wet, it is the best Geology class to understand the formations of this unique islands. The afternoon is dedicated to observe the giant tortoises in the wild, an unforgettable experience. The emblematic animals of the islands are gentle giants and its closeness and peaceful look take us back in time to the era of the dinosaurs!
