the temple on the Athenian Acropolis, Greece, dedicated to the goddess Athena, whom the people of Athens considered their patron. Construction began in 447 BC when the Athenian Empire was at the peak of its power. It was completed in 438 BC although decoration of the building continued until 432 BC.

Venture into the heart of the Ancient Greek world on a pre-voyage extension that takes you from the storied city of Athens. Discover the Acropolis and its museum of ancient artifacts, and visit the “Panathenian,” the site of the first modern Olympic Games.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Disembark Ship / Athens, Greece

After disembarking, enjoy a brief orientation tour of Athens followed by a visit to the Acropolis Museum, which displays some of the finest sculptures and other art of Ancient Greece. After the museum, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before transferring to your hotel with the afternoon at your leisure.

Enjoy cocktails and hors d'oeuvres at the hotel this evening. Dinner is on your own at one of Athens's numerous restaurants. (L)

Day 2 - Acropolis / Panathenian

Your morning is devoted to the Acropolis, the spiritual heart of Athens and much of the ancient world. This incredibly rich site not only houses the Parthenon, which was built in 438 B.C., but also a host of monuments from both earlier and later in the city’s prolific history. On a city tour, you will see the Temple of Zeus, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the “Panathenian” Olympic Stadium, where the first modern Olympic Games were held in 1896. Enjoy lunch and a cooking class in a traditional taverna at the foot of the Acropolis, followed by a walking tour of the Plaka, the old area of Athens. Experience dinner at a seaside restaurant this evening. (B,L,D)

Day 3 - Athens

This morning have breakfast at the hotel's restaurant before transferring to the airport for your flights home. (B)
