Andrea Bruce

Andrea Bruce is a photographer, journalist, artist and educator, who has documented some of the world's most interesting communities with intimacy and courage. Her projects focus on issues of democracy and war, as well as the social implications that are sometimes ignored or ignited in the wake of national conflict. Andrea started working in Iraq in 2003, bringing a local reporter’s insight and community-centered approach to her stories on the lives of Iraqis and the US military. She continued living in Iraq for 7 years, eventually moving to Afghanistan, Israel and then Mexico.

 

Andrea was a 2016 Nieman Fellow at Harvard University, where she studied political theory. Currently, she is based in North Carolina, where she is the creator and publisher of the hyperlocal, visual-first publication Down in the County.
