Chris Venus

Raised in Gibraltar after moving there from England at a young age, Chris developed an early connection to the ocean and outdoors. After graduation, while considering his next career path, he set off to explore more of the world and became drawn to travel. Along the way, he discovered scuba diving, which brought him back to the ocean and renewed his interest in the natural world. He quickly progressed through his training and became a scuba diving instructor.
Wanting to focus more on wildlife education, Chris shifted from teaching diving to nature guiding, working as an astronomy guide and interpretive marine wildlife guide. This experience eventually led him to his first expedition cruise vessel, where he began as a lecturer and Zodiac driver. He later transitioned to running an onboard science program and has more recently worked as a submersible pilot. Throughout his expedition career, diving has remained an important part of both his professional work and personal time.
As a member of the dive team, Chris combines his experience in diving, wildlife interpretation and expedition travel. His background above and below the surface allows him to share the underwater world with guests while providing context about the wildlife and environments encountered along the way.
