Claudia Hossbach

Growing up in Germany's Harz Mountains, Claudia developed an early interest in history, language and culture. She studied Scandinavian, British and American Studies, gaining a deep understanding of these regions through academics, extensive travel and time living in Sweden, Finland and England.

She earned a Master's and PhD from the University of Cambridge, where her research focused on emotions in the Middle Ages, particularly in medieval Icelandic literature. Do ask her about laughing Vikings when you spot her on board. Claudia enjoys sharing the vibrant cultures that thrive in northern regions, inviting audiences to explore a destination through its past and present. Drawing on history, language, archaeology and literature, she brings centuries-old stories to life. She also has a strong interest in the geopolitics of the polar regions and in highlighting the achievements of extraordinary female explorers throughout history.

Since 2017, Claudia has introduced travelers to the culture and history of Iceland, the Faroe Islands, continental Scandinavia, the British Isles, Italy and the Azores, often on foot as well as by bike and kayak. Outside the expedition industry, she advocates for the arts and humanities. While cultural exploration and history are her specialties, she also enjoys the outdoors and exploring the connections between nature and culture. After all, there's a story hidden in every landscape.
