Fernando Sánchez Ávalos

Fernando grew up in the countryside of San José, Costa Rica, in a family with traditions of hunting wildlife and capturing birds. In his 20s, his perspective shifted as he came to understand the importance of protecting Costa Rica’s biodiversity. Today, his work with nature and wildlife centers on conservation, and he considers himself more than a naturalist guide, describing his role as a nature ambassador and dedicated bird enthusiast.

Living in the foothills of the Talamanca mountain range strengthened his connection to the outdoors and introduced him to hiking throughout the region. He went on to lead expeditions across Costa Rica, gaining extensive knowledge of the country’s varied landscapes, ecosystems and wildlife. His experience in the field allows him to interpret Costa Rica’s natural history while helping guests better understand the importance of conservation and the remarkable biodiversity found throughout the country, from its mountain forests to its rich tropical habitats.

Fernando approaches each outing with curiosity, energy and a sense of humor. His slogan reflects that outlook: “If you love mountains and nature, come here and let’s enjoy it together. But if you don’t, let’s do it anyway and you will fall in love with it.
