Jean Nizou

Jean is a French geologist who earned his Ph.D. in Marine Sedimentology from the University of Bremen, Germany. Over a decade in academia, he conducted research in both, geophysics focusing on the magnetic properties of marine sediments and geochemistry specializing in the study of radiogenic isotopes found in sediment cores. Throughout his academic career, he has taught geology both in lecture halls and in the field, from the coasts of Normandy to the mountains of the Alps.

Since 2017, he has worked as a guide and lecturer in the northernmost part of the world, the southernmost part of the world, but also in between! With so much to learn about the geology, oceanography, glaciology and palaeoclimatology of these magnificent regions, Jean spends his life reading books and communicating his passion for science. Traveling is truly the best way to merge theoretical knowledge with experiencing nature in the field.

While contemplation and observation are essential for understanding natural phenomena, staying active is just as important for the mind. That is why, when he is at home, Jean enjoys spending time outdoors, mountain biking, hiking, and rock climbing, from the coast to the mountains.
