John Burcham
For more than three decades, John Burcham has been traveling the globe to photograph stunning places and fascinating people. His assignments for The New York Times, National Geographic, National Geographic Traveler and other publications have taken him everywhere from the summits of Alaskan peaks to the bottom of the Grand Canyon to remote Nepalese villages. As a member of National Geographic Creative, John participated in a project with Microsoft to photograph the Seven Wonders of the World. His work is also part of the National Geographic Image Collection.
In addition to capturing spectacular landscapes, John specializes in editorial assignments that require him to travel off-the-grid and photograph people in their natural environments. These assignments have included taking portraits of “Ice Road Truckers” for the History Channel’s popular television show, as well as photographing Navajo Nation farmers for The New York Times and field biologists for Arizona Highways. John has also shared his skills with others through teaching in Rhodes Scholar’s Photography Workshops. When not on assignment, John enjoys climbing with his friends and camping with his wife and son.
