John Fonseca

John is fortunate to have spent most of his life in the outdoors, climbing, hiking, kayaking, rafting and cruising some of the world's most pristine mountains, glaciers and waterways. He has guided climbing, trekking, kayaking and whitewater trips everywhere from Baja's Magdalena Bay to the Wairua River in New Zealand. John’s experience runs the gamut from a naturalist in Southeast Alaska to an outdoor backcountry professional and Bear Specialist for Yosemite National Park.

He has received training by the Alaska State Parks in firearms for Brown Bear Protection and is certified in Wilderness First Aid, CPR for Professionals and Swift Water Rescue. He served as the Trauma/Search & Rescue lead for the United States Polar Services program during his 13 month stay at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station Antarctica. John currently splits his time between National Geographic Lindblad expeditions and the Boating Coordinator at the United States Polar Services Palmer Station in Antarctica.
