Kelsey Camacho

Originally from the United States, Kelsey has called Svalbard home since 2016, developing an extensive familiarity with the landscapes, conditions and history of the High Arctic. She has guided trips by dogsled, boat and foot, experiencing the archipelago through different seasons and modes of travel. Her years in Svalbard have given her a firsthand perspective on life in a remote polar environment and the ways people have traveled, worked and lived throughout the region.

As a polar historian and writer, Kelsey focuses on creative nonfiction and Norwegian-to-English translation. Her interests bring together history, language and a strong sense of place, allowing her to explore the stories of polar regions through both research and writing. She spends considerable time in the Arctic and Antarctic, where her knowledge of polar history provides context for the landscapes and communities encountered along the way.

When she is not outside exploring, Kelsey can often be found reading or knitting. These quieter pursuits complement her time in the field and her work as a writer. Whether traveling through Svalbard by dogsled, exploring by boat or spending time farther south in Antarctica, she continues to deepen her understanding of the polar regions through experience, history and storytelling.
